Firstbeat Technologies and elite Finnish ice hockey team KalPa have entered into a new three-year partnership agreement that will see the organization utilize Firstbeat Sports for their U20 team for the first time in addition to their men’s professional team.
KalPa’s professional team has been a Firstbeat client since 2020, but this new agreement including the U20 team highlights their commitment to investing in long-term and strategic performance development.
Joel Wenning, Customer Success Manager at Firstbeat comments on the partnership:
“We are honored to continue our partnership with KalPa through this new three-year contract. We are particularly thrilled to extend our services to the U20 team, showcasing the club’s commitment to investing in the long-term development of young athletes.”
Firstbeat Sports provides valuable physiological insights into player development and the varying physiological demands across different age groups. The system significantly contributes to shaping a player’s career path from a young athlete to a top-tier hockey player.
From KalPa, the Director of Hockey Operations, Anssi Laine said:
“We have been extremely pleased with our cooperation with Firstbeat, feeling that their service offers immense added value to our coaching efforts. Consequently, it was a natural decision to continue and expand the use of the software to our U20 team.
By utilizing data, we can monitor players’ individual loads and track their development closely. Especially for younger players, it’s important to educate them through the data. By doing elite level load management we can speed up the performance development in all areas: skating, skills, strength, etc.”
KalPa will also upgrade their subscription level to Firstbeat Sports Premium+, designed for professional teams. The Premium+ package offers a rapid time to value through automated processes and close collaboration with the Firstbeat CSM team.
Additionally, Premium+ allows customizable reporting for analyzing athletes’ training loads. Firstbeat Sports provides comprehensive performance insights to support coaching decisions and is an effective tool for enhancing athlete development.
Firstbeat Sports data has been used in ice hockey for over a decade, with more than half of NHL franchises and several national federations integrating the technology into their training and recovery protocols.
